Welcome to Newlands Estate

Welcome to Newlands Estate — our little piece of Eden Valley in the heart of the Barossa.

Sunél and Derek van Renen are originally from South Africa; we made Australia home when we moved to Brisbane in 2009. After more than 15 years in Brisbane, we took a big leap in 2025 and bought our farm in beautiful Eden Valley, moving to the Barossa to start our next chapter.

Derek is a mechanical engineer and continues to work full-time in his profession, while Sunél is the owner of Wild Zebra Promotions, a branded merchandise business, and Sunél’s Kitchen, a small-batch condiment business inspired by her love of cooking and good food.

And then there are our two very important farm helpers — Digger John and Daisy, our two Jack Russells and the inspiration behind our 2 Jacks branding. You’ll often find them exploring the vineyard, supervising farm life and generally making sure we’re doing things properly!

At Newlands Estate, we grow Shiraz, Merlot, Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes. We are proud to supply our grapes to local Barossa wineries, becoming part of the region’s incredible winemaking community.

For our first Newlands Estate wine, we decided to keep things close to home. We contracted Peter Kelly from Thorn-Clarke Wines to make our 2026 Newlands Estate 2 Jacks Pinot Noir, allowing us to bring our own vineyard story to the bottle while working with an experienced local winemaking team.

Newlands Estate is a family-owned farm, a vineyard and a new adventure for us. We’re excited to share a little piece of our Eden Valley home with you — one bottle at a time.

Sunél’s Kitchen started with a love of cooking, experimenting with recipes and, most importantly, sharing good food with people.

I’ve always loved researching recipes, putting my own twist on them and testing them on friends and family. What started with cooking for our get-togethers gradually turned into a passion for creating homemade chutneys, pickles, relishes, jams and other delicious little additions to the table.

When my husband Derek and I moved from Brisbane to our farm in Eden Valley in the Barossa, I saw an opportunity to turn my hobby into something I could share with the local community. Sunél’s Kitchen was born in my home kitchen, with a focus on small-batch products made with care and plenty of flavour.

I love using seasonal produce and whenever possible, ingredients sourced from the Barossa and surrounding areas. From my classic eggplant chutney and chilli jam to pickles, relishes and jams, everything is made in small batches and taste-tested along the way.

You’ll find Sunél’s Kitchen at the Barossa Farmers Market and in selected local retailers and businesses. I also love working with other businesses to create products or flavours specifically for their needs.

For me, Sunél’s Kitchen isn’t just about making and selling condiments. It’s about sharing something I love, supporting local produce and businesses, and seeing people enjoy food that I’ve made.
